Association Internship Approval Committee

The Association Internship Approval Committee (AIAC) continues to support the implementation of the Standards for Education and Clinical Training, providing support and information to National Roster Internship Directors on a national and regional level. Regional representatives work to  further increase communication on a regional level with internship directors, supervisors, and interns to foster quality clinical training programs in music therapy. Committee members review all proposals submitted for National Roster Internship sites and provide technical support and training to prospective Internship Directors. The regional rep is available to review and provide feedback to anyone interested in developing a National Roster Internship Site proposal.

In NER we have 5 national roster internship sites.  They are:  Jewish Home for the Elderly, Fairfield CT, Riverview Hospital for Children and Youth, Middletown CT, Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, Newton MA, Shriners Burns Hospital, Boston MA, and Southbury Training School, Southbury CT.

A listserve is currently up and running for all NR Internship Directors.  This list is designed to provide technical support and a place with IDs can problem solve and share resources and best practices.

In NER, many internships sites are under Academic Affiliations.  Internship sites can have both NR and Academic Affiliations at the same time.  In any and all internship sites, there must be an Internship Agreement in place.  This agreement should describe the student’s level of performance, at the initiation of internship and the expected level of performance upon completion of the internship.

This agreement is built upon the AMTA competencies and must include the student, the academic advisor, and the internship director.

Eve Montague, MSM, MT-BC is the current AIAC representative for NER.
