2012 New England Region Conference: Finding Balance at the Equinox March 29-31, 2012
Dear Music Therapists and Friends, The conference committee is pleased to invite you to our 2012 spring conference, “Finding Balance at
the Equinox”, March 29-31, 2012 at the beautiful Equinox Resort and Spa in Manchester Village,
Vermont. The roots of today's 2,300-acre Equinox Golf Resort & Spa date back to 1769, when the town
of Manchester was just shy of a decade old. The original structure, one of Manchester’s first lodgings,
was a wooden, two-story building called the Marsh Tavern. The name "Equinox" first emerged in 1853, when owner Franklin Orvis opened his own hotel, the
"Equinox House," in his father's home next door to the Marsh Tavern. The hotel's reputation as a
premier summer resort was solidified in 1863, when Mrs. Abraham Lincoln and her two sons vacationed
there. We again are fortunate this year to have a multitude of CMTE offerings on Thursday and Saturday
afternoon. We feel the offerings are exceptional and are offered by experts both from our region and
beyond. Including topics on Neurologic Music Therapy, Spiritual Health, Vocal Improvisation, Autism
and the Brain, and many, many more! Get a chance to learn the basics about Technology! This year we are offering a Music Technology Track
featuring Kimberly Khare, MA, CMT; Lorrie Kubicek, MT-BC; & Heather Wagner, MMT, MT-BC. In three
presentations, learn the basics of two Apple programs and their clinical applications in music therapy.
Come to all or pick and choose from sessions on GarageBand, podcasting (using GarageBand) and
iMovie. These presentations will be hands-on, so bring your Mac, your projects or ideas, and your
questions. These programs can be used with a variety of clientele of all ages, and can be tailored to
meet a host of clinical goals. Due to the success of last year’s banquet, we’ve decided to make it a tradition. We again are offering a
banquet on Thursday evening as a way to kick off our conference in style. After a long day of CMTE’s, we hope you will join us for a sumptuous banquet in a relaxed atmosphere.
For $45, you will have your choice of entrée. After dinner, please join us for a “Circle of Friendship”
around the outdoor bonfire, enjoy the decadent dessert bar, and join your colleagues in a special song
circle, led by our very own Carylbeth Thomas. Please note that even if you do not attend the banquet,
you are most welcome and encouraged to attend the outdoor bonfire and song circle!
An AMTA Town Hall Meeting is slated for Friday 5:45-6:45pm. AMTA’s Education and Training Advisory
Board (ETAB) representatives Jane Creagan and Donna Polen will be present to discuss the Master’s
Level Entry Considerations. Please join us to further discuss this topic. As usual, your conference registration offers many extras, including continental breakfast on Friday
morning, our business luncheon on Friday afternoon, networking breakfast on Saturday morning, and
refreshments throughout the conference. Back by popular demand, boxed lunches will be available for
purchase between CMTE courses on Thursday and Saturday afternoon. And of course, we hope you will
share your talents with us at our ever-amazing Friday evening Cabaret. Included in this document is a tentative schedule and CMTE descriptions.
We look forward to seeing you at the conference!
