Job Description
Board Certified Music Therapist.
Reporting to: Principal
Location: Billerica and Tyngsboro, MA
Number of Openings: 1 Full-Time (182 Days)
Valley Collaborative is a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education approved public school entity. We provide high quality academic, therapeutic and vocational services to individuals referred by local school districts and social service agencies. We also provide ongoing professional development and training experiences for educators and educational agencies. Recognizing that the educational environment rapidly changes, Valley Collaborative creates, adapts, and provides flexible programming to address evolving needs. We provide an environment within which students and others can maximize educational and/or occupational skills. By sharing its resources with multiple school districts and social service agencies, its programs maintain superior quality and reasonable costs to those it serves, by meeting or exceeding state standards, and achieving economies of scale.
Qualifications:
• Board Certification in Music Therapy
• Experience providing music therapy services in the special education.
• The desire to make a difference in a student/adults life.
• Experience working with students/adults with special needs.
• Demonstrated ability to approach difficult youngsters in a creative and thoughtful manner.
• Flexibility to meet identified student needs.
• A strong commitment to the goals, mission, and philosophy of the organization.
Responsibilities:
• Assess, plan, and provide group and individual music therapy services across Collaborative programing.
• Consult and Collaborate with the school therapy and education team including,
o Speech Therapy
o Occupational Therapy
o Physical Therapy
o Behaviorists
o Special Education Teachers.
• Participate in team meetings
Additional Related Duties/Responsibilities:
• Selects appropriate music, books and instructional aids to enhance therapy and requisitions musical instruments and instructional supplies as necessary.
• Cooperation with Building Principal and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.
• Participate in staff meetings and in-service training as requested.
• All other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
• Constant standing or walking.
• Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Bends, reaches, lifts, carries, twists, pushes, pulls, and handles equipment when performing duties.
• Manual and finger dexterity and motor coordination are necessary when on vocational site.
• Able to reach and operate equipment and systems safely and effectively.
Other Competencies (skills, abilities, behavior):
Ability to understand and follow both written and oral instructions. Adaptability to perform routine, repetitive tasks within a specific period of time. Prioritizes work assignments to be completed within time requirements.
Must demonstrate a positive and caring attitude toward residents and staff. Must remain flexible and adaptable in order to meet department needs.
