Board Certified Music Therapist.

Reporting to: Principal

Location: Billerica and Tyngsboro, MA

Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, and provide group and individual music therapy services across Collaborative programing.

• Consult and Collaborate with the school therapy and education team including,

o Speech Therapy

o Occupational Therapy

o Physical Therapy

o Behaviorists

o Special Education Teachers.

• Participate in team meetings

Additional Related Duties/Responsibilities:

• Selects appropriate music, books and instructional aids to enhance therapy and requisitions musical instruments and instructional supplies as necessary.

• Cooperation with Building Principal and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.

• Participate in staff meetings and in-service training as requested.

• All other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

• Constant standing or walking.

• Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

• Bends, reaches, lifts, carries, twists, pushes, pulls, and handles equipment when performing duties.

• Manual and finger dexterity and motor coordination are necessary when on vocational site.

• Able to reach and operate equipment and systems safely and effectively.

Ability to understand and follow both written and oral instructions. Adaptability to perform routine, repetitive tasks within a specific period of time. Prioritizes work assignments to be completed within time requirements.

Director of Music Therapy

Summary of Position

The Director of Music Therapy (DMT) of CMCB will be a visionary leader responsible for supervising and directing all aspects of the department’s strategic vision, public visibility, and managerial operations. Reporting to the Chief Programming Officer, the DMT will be the main spokesperson for the music therapy department and will energize and execute all components of CMCB’s strategic plan that relate to music therapy. Maintaining multi-generational relationships with the board, faculty, staff, parents, students, strategic partners, and donors, the DMT will exude warmth and energy while leading a historic music therapy program focused on access for diverse populations. The DMT will also oversee best practices in hiring, training, mentoring, and supervising music therapists, interns, and practicum students while maximizing earned and contributed revenues.

Roles & Responsibilities

Program Development, Diversity, and Inclusion

 

  • Foster and leverage CMCB’s strong reputation as an extraordinary community music school to sustain current programming and to develop future opportunities for expansion and growth in the music therapy department.
  • Develop new partnership agreements with schools and community organizations to advance the music therapy footprint throughout the Greater Boston area.
  • Ensure the highest level of programs and services that meet the needs of a diverse community.
  • Identify and promote programming that challenges the status quo and pushes the organization to consider choices which may be outside its traditional comfort zone.
  • Determine program goals and develop strategies to meet them.
  • Oversee all music therapy in-house and outreach contracts and implementation of contracts
  • Maintain compliance with Code of Ethics & Standards – HIPAA and AMTA

Direct Clinical Service

  • Provide music therapy services to in-house clients and to outreach agency groups. Sessions are provided in individual and group settings.
  • Communicate with client families and other interdisciplinary team members regarding client progress
  • Coordinate with front office on intake schedules and room usage
  • Complete client intake documents, weekly progress notes, quarterly progress reports, and annual agency profiles

Stakeholder Cultivation and Community Engagement

  • Listen carefully, speak persuasively, and anticipate concerns of parents, students, faculty, staff, external partners, and the public.
  • Assist with mobilizing the talents, connections, and resources of the board to stimulate their continued active involvement.
  • Refine, monitor, and implement the 2017-2019 strategic plan with the board, enabling the music therapy department to gain market visibility and achieve greater organizational impact.
  • Work collaboratively with Advancement Department on marketing, branding, and public relations programs that highlight the music therapy department’s impacts and reputation.
  • Attend staff meetings, participate in supervision, and community events as a representative of CMCB.

Department and Budget Management

  • Spearhead innovation and creativity to allow the music therapy department to become more structured, prescriptive, and data-driven.
  • Lead efforts to increase diversity of department to reflect student diversity.
  • Provide leadership in the recruitment and retention of students and clients.
  • Lead department to ensure that faculty, staff, students, and parents have a memorable experience that leaves a legacy on their future growth and personal development.
  • Empower and build camaraderie among music therapists to recognize and leverage individual strengths that contribute to organizational success.
  • Monitor and report financial performance and design an organizational and financial accountability structure that is effective, efficient, and exceeds industry standards.
  • Work with COO and CPO to evaluate and determine program rates and fees
  • Manage all accounts and contracts with the participation of registrar, COO, and CPO including preparing and sending invoices to agencies
  • Assist Advancement department in grant application and reporting process
  • Maintain music therapy equipment and instruments

Key competencies include the following:

Qualifications

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in music therapy. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge in the field of music therapy.
  • Board certification in music therapy is required.
  • Must have the ability to plan and execute department initiatives. Expertise in planning, organizational development, and team building in a collegial environment of mutual respect is needed.
  • A successful track record in best practices within the music therapy field and a high level of leadership experience is expected.
  • Passion for music therapy as well as enthusiasm for CMCB’s dual mission of excellence and access.
  • A minimum of 5 years in clinical experience is preferred.

 

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range is $40K – 45K. Commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical insurance (group health and flexible spending account) paid time off, non-contributory 403(b) retirement plan, and discounts on music instruction at CMCB.

MUSIC THERAPIST

Brookline Music School, a private, nonprofit community school for the arts, seeks a part-time music therapist to:
– provide music therapy sessions for clients with a range of needs; and
– teach piano to children with exceptionalities as part of BMS’s Piano for All Children program.

Board Certified Music Therapist – Part Time Fee for Service

Job Purpose Summary:

To provide exceptional music therapy services to groups and individuals

Essential Responsibilities:

• Planning, organizing and leading goal driven music therapy sessions for groups and individuals with diverse skills, abilities, and needs in a variety of locations

• Documenting all music therapy sessions and client communications in format provided by RMTS in BestNotes CRM

• Assessing new clients and groups and developing treatment plan within 3 sessions using the assessment format provided by RMTS in BestNotes

• Communicate client progress through periodic written reports as required by contracting agency, ie. Quarterly Reports, Annual Reviews, etc.

• Collaborate with other members of treatment teams, including family members and staff when applicable

• Communicate with Clinical Director of RMTS on a regular and on-going basis regarding client progress, issues, and questions

• Participate in scheduled supervision with Clinical Director of RMTS on an as-needed basis

• Submit required paperwork within the required time period including logs, reports, assessment and treatment plans

• Enter all billable hours on Minute 7 at the end of each day

• Provide feedback on all RMTS forms and documentation to keep the forms up-to-date with current client needs

• Direct requests for information regarding music therapy and music therapy services with the contact information for RMTS using available printed and website materials

• Demonstrate a professional attitude to all clients, prospects, and other professionals at all times

• Maintain MT-BC Credential through CMTE’s and participation in professional conferences, including, but not limited to, music therapy conferences

Required Education:

BA, BS, or MA in Music Therapy with completed 1040 hours of clinical training and Board Certification as a Music Therapist (MT-BC.)  Demonstrate proficiency of clinical musicianship on piano, guitar and voice and rhythmic improvisation.

Hours and Pay Range:

Job Description:

• Provide recreational music groups when necessary.

• Complete and document intakes, assessments, and client sessions for music therapy clients.

• Maintain documentation for music therapy clients, utilizing Sing Explore Create, LLC’s documentation system, including weekly session notes, as well as written progress reports as frequently as deemed necessary in individual client’s treatment plans.

• Effectively communicate with parents/clients regarding treatment plans, sessions, scheduling, etc.

• Complete client attendance record logs to be turned into the director.

• Attend staff meetings and participate in monthly supervision meetings.

• Assist in developing new music therapy contracts and partnerships between Sing Explore Create, LLC and agencies, hospitals, schools, and related facilities throughout the community.

• Assist in program development needs as they arise.

Summary of Position
CMCB Music Therapy Department is seeking motivated, creative, community-oriented and passionate music therapist for the 2016-2017 school year. About Music Therapy at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester and South Boston

 

The Music Therapy program, or Music Inclusion Program, provides youth ages 6-18 with cognitive and/or physical disabilities the opportunity to participate in a music program, specifically children on the Autism Spectrum and those with Down’s syndrome. This program will typically run once a week or depending on the needs of the organization, with each participant attending a 45-minute group “lesson”, where the group might be 4-6 youth. The overall session will run 8-10 weeks per semester and include a summer program. The ultimate goal is to both give youth the tools to develop friendships, relationships, and social skills in an environment in which they can blossom.

Essential Job Responsibilities

The Music Therapist will run the program. The Music Therapist will plan and implement Music Therapy classes at the Boys & Girls Clubs. The Music Therapist is responsible for all planning and implementation, with support from an assistant during the classes. He/She will also create treatment plans for each participant. In some cases, the Music Therapist will be responsible for communication with parents, as appropriate, with support from the Inclusion Director and Music Therapy assistant. The Music Therapist is also responsible for the equipment associated with the Music Therapy program, ensuring that it is put away and locked at the end of each day.

 

KEY ROLES

• Support clients’ creative music development and facilitate positive change in their behaviors and well-being  

•Re-direct and manage problem behaviors

•Complete treatment planning and attendance tracking for participants

•Meet with Music Therapist assistant weekly to discuss happenings in groups and other
