Chair, Department of Creative Arts Therapies

Georgia College & State University seeks applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Creative Arts Therapies/ College of Health Sciences (COHS).

Georgia College, the state’s designated Public Liberal Arts University, combines the educational experience expected at esteemed private liberal arts colleges with the affordability of public higher education. A total of 6,652 undergraduate and graduate students in four colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Health Sciences, the J. Whitney Bunting College of Business, and the John H. Lounsbury College of Education with a faculty of more than 300, are the heart of academic and student life. In addition to the courses offered on the Milledgeville campus, Georgia College offers selected graduate online degree, post master’s certificate and doctoral programs and selected undergraduate courses online delivered through either synchronous or asynchronous or hybrid format throughout the year.

The Creative Arts Therapies Department (CAT) offers the following academic degree programs; Bachelors of Music Therapy (BMT), Masters of Music Therapy (MMT), Masters Equivalency Program in Music Therapy, and a Master of Arts in Art Therapy. Additionally the CAT Department offers a very popular Creative Arts Therapies Minor Program which includes foci in Music Therapy, Art Therapy, or Movement Therapy.  The Music Therapy Programs have long held and sustained American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) Program Approval under the umbrella National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) program accreditation. The Department has 5.5 full-time, permanent Music Therapy and Art Therapy faculty and 1 full-time staff member as well as several Music faculty on the GC main campus. Four part-time faculty currently teach some didactic courses and assist with clinical supervision of students. Current enrollment of majors in the Department are 68 full-time BMT students, 12 MMT students, and 9 MA-Art Therapy students. The MMT program is offered fully online using state of the art synchronous and asynchronous delivery methods.  The Department provides Music Therapy services to external clients and community consumers through its instructional Clinic Services.

The Chair serves as the chief academic and administrative leader of the Department of Creative Arts Therapies and oversees recruitment of a diverse and talented faculty, staff and students. The Chair works closely with Program/ Clinical Coordinators and with the Music Therapy Clinic Coordinator to ensure excellence in all aspects of the School’s didactic and clinical programs and initiatives.  The Chair is expected to maintain the Department’s current national accreditations which are supportive state practice licensures. The Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences and serves as an integral member of the COHS Administrative Leadership Team. The Chair also serves on the COHS Administrative Council and the Dean’s Expanded Leadership Council. The College of Health Sciences, enrolls approximately 1,605 students (1,391 Undergraduate and 214 Graduate). The College houses the School of Nursing, the School of Health & Human Performance, the Department of Creative Arts Therapies, and the Division of Health Services.
