About the Opportunity:
SSC is seeking a diverse and dynamic Music Therapist. This position plays a critical role in the ongoing success and growth of the conservatory. Reporting into the Director of Creative Arts Therapies and Community Engagement, the Music Therapist directly manages a caseload of music therapy clients, providing both individual and group music therapy. This position reports directly to the Director of Creative Arts Therapies and Community Engagement and will help represent the Creative Arts Therapies Department.
SSC’s Creative Arts Therapies uses music therapy, dance therapy, and accessible yoga to enhance wellness among children and adults with a wide range of health and developmental challenges. Services are provided in individual and group sessions at SSC facilities, in client homes, and through partnerships with several South Shore community organizations, including schools, long term care facilities, group homes, and senior centers.
This is a non-exempt part-time role for 22 hours per week and an possibility of growing into full time. The hourly rate between $40 – $60 dependent on prior experience. This role will require frequent travel between the Hingham and Duxbury campuses.

Responsibilities – Essential Functions and Skills
Plan, design, and implement goal-directed music therapy sessions for groups and individuals with diverse abilities, skills, and needs, in a variety of settings.
Prepare and maintain music therapy session plans, observations, progress reports, attendance, and materials as required and/or requested.
Communicate with all stakeholders (team, family, individual) to directly coordinate music therapy services.
Collaborate with team, department, and others to develop and deliver effective and relevant treatment.
Educate SSC Faculty and Staff on best practices related to access for individuals with disabilities.
Maintain board certification (MT-BC) through continuing education.
Participate in individual and group supervision as scheduled.
Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, as set forth by the American Music Therapy Association and the Certification Board for Music Therapy.
Promote and support SSC programs, activities, and mission.
Participate in scheduled SSC and departmental meetings and professional development.
Supervise creative arts therapies practicum students and interns as appropriate.
Provide additional administrative support as needed.
Education, Experience, Qualification Required
Minimum of bachelor’s in music therapy; Master’s preferred.
Board Certification in Music Therapy (CBMT certification) – Board certification in progress is also acceptable.
Proficiency of clinical musicianship on piano, guitar, voice
Ability to improvise using a variety of drums and other rhythm/percussion instruments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team members.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills
Highly developed oral and written communication skills
Work Environment
This job operates in professional environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. The job will require going out in the field, visiting clients. This position is mostly sedentary outside of travel. This would require the ability to sit at a desk, frequent walking, bending, or standing as necessary.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Designated days and schedule will be primarily Monday-Friday though will also be based on the needs of the operation and business, requiring weekends, nights, and early mornings for special events. Travel is required to clients throughout the South Shore.
