Hands in Harmony is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that provides Neurologic Music Therapy services throughout Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. Music Therapists facilitate direct clinical sessions to Hands in Harmony’s clients and patients, utilizing evidence-based Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) interventions to address health outcomes addressing communicative, physical, cognitive, social and emotional needs.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The majority of services are provided in-person and occur in home and facility-based, with some sessions occurring at our clinic in Kingston, Rhode Island. Music Therapist is responsible for monitoring client progress on a daily basis, as well as other evaluations and progress as needed, offering workshops and presentations to varying facilities. Music Therapist should be comfortable helping create music therapy programs for a variety of facilities.
The Music Therapist will be responsible for:
● Providing family, individual, and group therapy for a total of 21-25 billable hours per
week
● Providing services to inpatient behavioral health groups
● Completing music therapy assessments in a variety of settings
● Providing consistent and ongoing daily quantitative and qualitative documentation
● Monitoring progress of service delivery to a variety of populations.
● Facilitating in-services and workshops
● Completing light secretarial/administrative duties also required (maintaining schedule,
reviewing company documents and employee documentation, consulting with
teams/potential referrals and facilities, answering questions regarding music therapy to
administrators).
● Traveling to sessions when required.
● Collaborating with ED and COO on program development
● Collaborating closely with client teams, families/caregivers, and Hands in Harmony
colleagues
Supervisory responsibilities
● Supervising, scheduling and collaborating with other music therapists
● Assisting with oversight of daily operations for clinical staff (Master’s Level)
● Responsible for scheduling, managing calendars and agendas of clinical staff and
student interns. Arranging appointments, meetings, supervision, book clinical space for
scheduled meetings, and making travel arrangements. Keeping administrative staff
informed of scheduling and deadlines.
● Supervising practicum students and interns
● Providing weekly reports of feedback and observations to the Executive Director, and
Chief Operating Officer.
Required Qualifications:
● A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in music therapy or a related discipline required
● Experience in the human services field required.
● Must be able to pass a BCI check and fingerprinting through the state of Rhode Island
and federal systems
● Must be able to obtain licensure through the Rhode Island Department of Health
● Board certification required
Preferred Qualifications:
● 2 years experience in inpatient behavioral health settings
● Neurologic Music Therapy Certification preferred
● Experience in clinical supervision preferred
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
● Highly developed ability in the administration, assessment, and interpretation of data
ability to maintain documentation through organization software and EPIC.
● Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
● Demonstrated skill in student supervision preferred.
● Demonstrated ability in group therapy, group management, individual therapy, and family
based services.
● Demonstrated skills in consultation and the ability to work as part of a team.
● Clinical experience
● Ability to problem solve, make decisions that are appropriate and align with the
organization’s mission and philosophies
● Demonstrated skill in collaboration with the patient care team by actively communicating
and reporting relevant patient treatment information in EPIC/Lifechart.
● Demonstrated ability to receive and implement feedback from supervisors, patients,
treatment teams
● Highly developed clinical skill set; demonstrates ability to utilize music therapy as part of
a patient’s treatment plan to address goals
● Provides education to treatment team, staff and patients about music therapy services
and research through in-services and daily interactions
● Demonstrated ability to provide high quality of services to contribute toward improving
patient satisfaction scores.
● Self-motivator, demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks.
● Maintains accurate and complete documentation
● Supports organization and hospital growth by providing innovative solutions through
participants in department projects. Communicates new ideas and/or solutions that help
to improve quality of services.
● Demonstrated ability for professional and self-growth
Working Conditions:
● Work environment includes a variety of different settings including: virtual, home-based,
clinic, facility and inpatient and hospital-based. Daily tasks may include remote work
from the employee’s home.
● Work environment may include indoor and outdoor sessions
● Personal Protective Equipment and additional PPE may be required for specific facilities
● Perform activities that may include; balancing, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, crouching, kneeling
● Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
● Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Employees may be required to wear masks in clinical settings. Weekly testing available for
