Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Psycho-Social Support Services, the Music Therapist is responsible for providing services to Care Dimensions patients and families/caregivers through engagement in a variety of creative art modalities, specifically music, to enhance quality of life. The Music Therapist offers visual music to foster relaxation, stress reduction, self-expression, and memory making to Care Dimensions patients in the North Shore and Greater Boston areas.
Essential Functions: · Conducts initial assessment and reassessments of patient/caregiver needs relative to music therapy. · Develops plan of care incorporating music modalities and addressing individual patient/ caregiver needs. · Implements ongoing music therapy interventions with patients and/or family/caregivers. · Adapts techniques, interventions, and materials to accommodate physical and cognitive limitations. · Educates patients and families/caregivers regarding music therapy techniques and promotion of these techniques for self-implementation. · Evaluates plan of care and music therapy interventions on an ongoing basis. · Assists with memorial services as requested by agencies or families by providing expressive music. · Completes required documentation for all assessments and ongoing music therapy services. · Attends and participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, staff meetings, and in-services as appropriate. · Trains and consults with team members, including volunteers, to provide access to creative experiences for patients and their families/caregivers. · Provides educational in-services to staff and volunteers to maintain awareness of the role of music therapy in addressing patient/caregiver needs. · Provides supervision to volunteers and music therapy student interns.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from an accredited program. Master’s Degree preferred. · Current board certification in music therapy. · Must obtain and maintain any applicable certification required for the performance of this functional role as defined by Care Dimensions. · Proficient in the use of a wide variety of art media and creative techniques and interventions. · Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel. · Minimum of one year of experience in both acute care and home care settings preferred.
· Previous experience with adults in chronic/terminal health preferred.
· Knowledge and skills in utilizing music as therapeutic modalities with adults and families. · Knowledge of grief/loss theory and its interaction with individual and family development. · Ability to work with patients and their families/caregivers in their place of residence (home, hospital, assisted living facility, nursing home, or Kaplan Family Hospice House). · Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with members of the interdisciplinary team. · Excellent skills in listening and communicating with patients and their families/ caregivers to assist in processing memories and emotions evoked through the creative experience. · Licensed driver with reliable transportation and automobile insurance.
