Infinity Music Therapy Services: Staff Music Therapist  

We are looking for a creative and energetic board-certified music therapist to join our team! We are looking for a clinician who can work cohesively with the therapists on our treatment team as well as be confident in their clinical skills to work independently in the field. We are looking for an individual who has strong vocal and guitar skills, is able to accept and give feedback, and who is prompt to answer emails and phone calls. This position requires a minimum of a one year commitment.

Starting Date: Immediately but we are willing to wait for the right candidate!

Compensation: Competitive pay based upon experience. This position is paid hourly during a training period and then will move to a salaried position. You will be compensated for your travel time to and from your caseload as well as for your time commuting between clients. (you get paid to drive to and from work!) You will also be compensated for your planning and documentation time, team meetings, and practice time. Once salaried, you will be compensated even during client cancellations or inclement weather. We believe in financial stability for our staff!

Schedule: TBD, most likely Tuesday-Saturday. One weekend day will be required. Session times include daytime, afternoon, and evening hours. Applicants should be able to accommodate a somewhat flexible schedule to meet the needs of our clients. Approximately 20hrs/week growing to 40 hours. We expect this position to be full time within 6 months. Our therapists have some flexibility in scheduling clients and office hours.

Location: Our clinic is located in Southington. You will report to our clinic 1-2 times per week to attend staff meetings and work with our amazing clients. This position includes cases clustered in Fairfield and New Haven Counties. Cases are clustered together based upon location to minimize driving.

Populations: Infinity serves children and adults diagnosed with developmental disabilities, mental health disorders, neurological needs, and wellness needs. Applicants should have experience working with individuals diagnosed with Autism and Down Syndrome. Our therapists work in our clinic, in private homes, in schools, and in other facilities throughout Connecticut. This position requires travel.

Responsibilities: You will  design and implement group and individual music therapy sessions, music lessons, drum circles, and other sessions as needed. You will write assessment reports, goal reviews, and termination reports as well as complete a variety of general administration tasks such as completing time sheets, schedules, etc. You will attend weekly team meetings and participate in, and lead, team trainings, self-care sessions, and intervention swaps.  In addition, you will communicate with our families and contracts to ensure quality of services and set session schedules. Our entire team assists in marketing events as needed. Each of our therapists participate in individual and group supervision so we can grow clinically and musically together!

Materials Available: You will be provided with access to our extensive lending library including but not limited to: drums, sound shapes, maracas, egg shakers, desk bells, jingle bells, tambourines, scarves, parachutes, small toys, q-chord, ukuleles, guitars, keyboards, children’s books, music books, etc. You will have access to a laminator, computer, printer, and binding machine. Office supplies and cleaning supplies are provided. We also utilize a HIPAA compliant web program making client files available out in the field.

This position is for you if:

  • You are able to work in a team and independently, as needed.

  • You are open to learning about new or less familiar populations.

  • You are comfortable teaching an adaptive music lesson.

This position is not for you if:

  • You are uncomfortable working with mental health populations.

  • You do not have reliable transportation or you are unwilling to commute to your clients.

  • You are interested in starting your own private practice.

  • You are unwilling to live in Connecticut.

  • You believe that you have nothing to learn from supervision.

  • You quickly give up when you have a difficult case.

  • The thought of writing a report freaks you out!

  • You are at a loss to think of interventions to work on speech goals, decreasing agitation, or academic skills.
