The Role: Internship Director
The Internship Director plays a pivotal educational and supervisory role at RMTS, ensuring our music therapy interns receive an exceptional training grounded in AMTA standards and music therapy best practices. With the support of the Internship Supervisors, you’ll provide guidance, structure, feedback, and clinical leadership that helps interns grow into confident, ethical, and skillful professionals.
As the Internship Director, you will:
Supervise, Mentor, and Inspire
• Lead/co-lead sessions and provide clinical modeling
• Offer structured feedback, observations, and monthly individual consultations
• Collaborate with Intern Supervisors to design a rich rotation of learning experiences
• Maintain open communication with interns, supervisors, academic advisors, and RMTS leadership
Deliver High-Quality Clinical Services
• Provide direct service to an assigned caseload
• Conduct assessments, implement interventions, and document client progress
• Ensure sessions reflect evidence-based practice and honor client goals
Lead Program Administration
• Guide recruitment, interviewing, selection, onboarding, and training of interns
• Schedule and facilitate weekly intern in-service sessions
• Ensure AMTA National Roster Internship compliance
• Oversee coordination of paperwork, scheduling, and communication
What You Bring
• MT-BC in good standing
• Bachelor’s degree in music therapy or equivalent
• 2+ years of full-time clinical experience
• Strong musicianship (voice, guitar, piano, percussion)
• Interpersonal communication skills and sound clinical judgement
• Completion of 5-hour AMTA CMTE on supervising interns or other documented supervision training
• Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
• Commitment to ethical care, professional integrity, and continual learning
Work Environment
You’ll be traveling to client sites across Greater Boston, Metro West, and the North Shore for both clinical work and intern support. When not in the field our office in Wakefield will serve as your work site.

• Expected salary range for this position is: $55,000-$72,000, based on experience
