Statement On Mass Shooting

Dear Music Therapy Community,

Our hearts and thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those killed in the mass shooting that took place yesterday at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX. We believe in the strength of community in times of great trauma, and we also know that more needs to be done to protect our fellow humans from needless tragedy.

Yesterday’s mass shooting, along with those in Buffalo, NY and Laguna Woods, CA earlier this month, are reminders of the ongoing, horrifying gun violence that plagues the United States. We are deeply angered and heartbroken that this hatred and violence continues across the country. While we look at ways we can support these communities, it is our belief that as music therapists we must also consider supporting organizations focused on prevention such as Moms Demand Action (https://momsdemandaction.org/).
